Gardening Club Volunteer

Our Gardening Club for adults with learning disabilities is held at allotments in West End, Southampton, and managed by our Co-ordinator.

The Gardening Club is held on a Wednesday afternoon and Saturday morning during March to October, but volunteers can, if they wish, visit our allotments during other times of the week to carry out maintenance work or help with watering the beds during hot weather. We hold regular meetings during the winter months to prepare for the next season.

The club was set up to provide our members with an opportunity to enjoy an outdoor activity and learn about looking after the flowers, fruit and vegetable they grow.

You do not need to be an expert gardener, but we are looking for someone who is happy to “muck in” and help the members with learning disabilities to get the most out of their time at the Gardening Club.

You would not be expected to support our members other than to help them with their gardening tasks, or encourage them to help you with any maintenance or repair works.

Skills

This opportunity would be ideal for anyone over 18, with good communication skills, and an interest in helping people with learning disabilities to enjoy being outdoors and to improve their gardening skills.

We are looking for someone who enjoys being outdoors, has an interest in gardening, but also may have some practical skills who would enjoy doing maintenance work on the allotments and might like to be a bit creative!
